Easter Celebration in Armenia

Every Christian country celebrates Easter – the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Christians believe that Jesus Christ – the son of God, died for their sins and returned to life three days later to fight death and evil.

Christians celebrate Easter two days after Good Friday, the day of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. In Armenia, people go to church, lent, paint eggs, fight with the eggs, gather together to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Easter is a Christian holiday. Jesus died because of our sins and resurrected to protect us from the devil. We celebrate it to thank Him for his sacrifice.

Being the first Christian country, Armenian Easter traditions are unique. Armenian women bake a cake. People paint boiled eggs especially in red color, which symbolizes the color of Jesus’ blood. Armenian children fight with the eggs. People also lent before Easter. The 40-day fast of Lent is said to commemorate the 40-day fast of Christ.

Speaking about the traditional Easter food in Armenia we should mention that Armenian women bake a cake with white flavoring, which symbolizes purity, make fried fish, herbs of different kinds, boil and paint eggs in different colors, rice with raisins (dried grapes), and dried fruits.
